ASX Names New Compliance Officer Amid Urgent Turnaround Efforts

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has announced the immediate appointment of Lucinda McCann as its new chief compliance officer, responding to increasing demands to advance its multi-year turnaround strategy. This decision comes as the exchange faces intensified regulatory scrutiny following a series of compliance and operational challenges, including recent critiques from the central bank regarding its governance and an investigation by the corporate regulator launched in June. ASX Chair David Clarke emphasized last month that the exchange’s transformation plan ‘cannot fail,’ underscoring the urgent need to enhance its technology systems and risk management practices. Currently, ASX is halfway through a five-year initiative aimed at modernizing its operations and building resilience after a series of high-profile disruptions, including a trading settlement delay encountered in 2024. McCann brings over 25 years of experience, having previously worked at international law firm Norton Rose Fulbright as a partner and served for five years with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, including a role as the regulator’s chief general counsel. She succeeds Daniel Moran, who departed in July after a 15-year career with the exchange.
